HANDS-ON, MINDS-ON YOUTH PROGRAMMING

ENERGY & WATER EDUCATION PROGRAM

If you teach sixth grade or high school Environmental Science (or related field) and want to help your students become leaders in energy and water efficiency, the City of Colton’s Energy & Water Education Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity. The Energy & Water Education Program is a program developed by teachers and administered by Tinker LLC for Colton residents.

Program Goals:

  • To provide teachers with content that enriches current curriculum and support CDE standards at NO COST.
  • To educate our youth about the importance of electricity, water and sustainability.
  • To provide students with the tools to be responsible users of energy and water for a lifetime.
  • To provide families the opportunity program to immediately save energy and water through FREE take-home energy & water efficiency kits!

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PROGRAM?

The Energy & Water Education Program is designed to teach students about energy & water and why it should be used wisely and responsibly. The program is offered through an online web app that is accessible both in the classroom and by those learning from home.

For teachers, the web app is designed in a clearly structured usable format, making implementation easy for new, as well as veteran teachers. The program can be broken up into lessons that can be taught over a day, month, or semester. It is up to you!

For students, the program is engaging and fun. Students compete for prizes while learning about energy and water in our community program and participating in hands-on activities. Plus, each student goes home with an energy efficiency starter kit that they can install with their families to immediately start savings at home.

WHAT DO WE COVER?

Our visual and hands-on lessons are Common Core and CDE Standards correlated and provide an excellent supplement to your classroom. Our experience has taught us that students often lack the in-depth understanding of energy systems that may be necessary to take action to save money and carbon emissions. We seek to fill in the blanks and inspire them to make changes in their own lives.
