Become an Instructor
Thank you for considering the City of Colton as a possible site for instruction. It is a desire of the City of Colton to provide a variety of quality courses to its residents and neighboring communities. The following is important information regarding becoming a contract instructor with the City of Colton: 
  • Each instructor may enjoy a profit of 65% of the gross revenue for his/her class; 70% if the class is held at an approved and insured location outside of a city facility. Instructors are to complete a payment request form at the completion of their course. 
  • Instructors must be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check prior to the approval of the contract. This service is at the expense of the instructor and is required through the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, with approved paperwork from the City of Colton. 
  • The City of Colton will cover the cost of liability insurance if classes are held at City of Colton facilities. For classes held offsite, the City of Colton will require the contractor to provide liability insurance in the amount of $1 million listing the City of Colton as additionally insured. The general liability needs to be $1 million per occurrence for bodily injury, personal injury, and property damage. The general aggregate limit needs to be twice the amount of the occurrence limit. At least 30 days prior to the start of the class, a contractor shall submit city proof of liability coverage with endorsements listing the city as additionally insured. In addition, all off-site classes must provide proof of a current business license with the City of Colton.
  • All instructors working with children must provide proof of passing a TB test within the last 12 months prior to the start of the proposed class date. Instructors must take the test at their own expense.

You will be notified within 3-4 weeks of submittal whether your proposal has been approved or denied: 

If your submittal is chosen, the following requirements will need to be processed prior to the start of class:
  • Insurance (if applicable)
  • Live Scan Criminal Background Check
  • TB Test (if teaching children’s classes)
  • W9 Form
